Raymarine Software Update

Post by Peter3607 »

Looking to update the software on my C120 Classic MFD. Followed the instructions from the Raymarine website. Downloaded the update and transferred to the compact flash (128 MB).
The download produced v5 folder. Contained within this folder were 2 items: AUTORUN.DOB and C_App_Prod516.pkg (this is what I copied to the compact flash drive)
I removed the Navionics card and inserted the update into the MFD and turned the unit on and nothing happened. Did I miss something in the instructions? Raymarine Support was no help to me. They suggested I purchase online the update preloaded from a third party supplier. But I don't want to buy something that is available and free. I'd like to update the software before I update the Navionics chart card.
Anyone with experience in this procedure?

Peter3607, just to verify, you used a Compact Flash memory card...not a MicroSD with a compact flash adaptor? The classic series can have issues reading some of the new CF cards due to speed issues and can be pickey with them. (The newer ones have faster access times that may not be compatible with the classic systems) That's why raymarine advised ordering a prepopulated CF card. I actually use an old Navionics CF card that I wiped clean. Is there anything else on the CF card besides the update?

do you have any waypoints, route or track data on your system. If you do, you could test the card by erasing the CF you installed the update on, then try to save your waypoint, route and track data to that card. If it records then you know that the issue is not with the card itself. If the card is good, I would then wipe the card again and re-download the update and try again. Make sure you follow the instructions for the C Series Classic, E Series Classic. Once the system boots up you should see a software upgrade utility, that's what the Autorun.dob file is for.

Hi ColRon, yes that is correct. I used a128 MB compact flash drive as suggested by Raymarine. The drive is brand new with nothing else loaded in its memory. I will give the waypoints transfer an attempt to confirm the drive is acceptable for the unit. stay tuned.....

Success!! I tried a larger memory compact flash drive (1 GB) and the update went smooth. All waypoints remained intact and MFD is not operating under updated software. Thanks for everyone's assistance!! :worthy:

Good news, glad to hear you got it to work. I know that Raymarine recommends a CF card with a smaller capacity, but I’ve found that it’s not necessarily the size that matter, but whether or not the MFD can read it. As I mentioned before, I use an old Navionics card that I wiped and it’s a 2GB card.
