Fuel / Water separator with bowl
While I am getting more and more familiar with our new boat, I am also starting to replace parts or stock up on spares. Installed are Sierra 18-7949 filters with metal drain bowls. I cannot find where Sierra has offered this package, only the filter and bowl separate. So I guess my next question is, how much longer life can I expect from the filter being able to drain from the bowl vs. a filter without a drain? Below is a snip from the Sierra website with their replacements and then a pic of my filter installed.

You only need to replace the filter part which is number sierra # 18-7919. The bottom metal bowl is just that, a metal bowl with a threaded drain plug on the bottom which is essentially good forever. Here is a Racor equivalent at my go to filter place.

Awesome, thanks Midnight! I was just confused as hell cause I could not find the long filter with threaded bottom to accept the metal bowl. But I just found it on the site you sent. Its the Racor S3232. Not sure what the difference is between the long and short but I just want to go back with whats been working on the boat. I've had so many bad experiences with my previous powerboats making simple changes like that and it somehow affecting the performance believe it or not. Just changing brand oil filters for example that were cross referenced to be "like and kind" would create a 10-15lb. oil pressure difference. I know that the power plants in my Carver are not "High compression performance motors", but at least until I am comfortable with whats the normal operating parameters, I want to stick with whats installed currently for baseline before experimenting

Just like oil filter that can be had in long and short versions. Technically the longer it is the more filter media therefor longer time between changes. Fuel filters tend to stay clean for a heck of a long time, I do not see the need for the longer unit but it definitely cannot hurt anything.
