Shifter/Throttles

Post by Homelite »

Hello,
On my 2004 360 Sedan, the soft "grippy rubber" handles on my "carver" named shifters are all cracked up from the sun over the years. Any replacement handles/levers or suggestions? I suppose they are teleflex or morse, but private labeled for Carver.... Also, my red plastic "push in" buttons to allow revving the engine in neutral are broken. Any replacement for them? IN the Carver online parts lists, I don't see the shifter mentioned by part number, and even if it was, it would be a Carver part number I probably could do nothing with.

Thanks in advance.

As our vessels get older and older OEM parts from the various manufacturers that make up our systems can become quite a challange to obtain. Getting creative becomes more and more of a requirement as time marches on. If OEM from manufacturer is no longer available for an item try a currently produced product from another maker. Research it out to determine if if could be a direct drop in for old part, if not, may have to consider buying something close. Then modifly to fit and or function.

I took the shifter(s) apart Sunday. I found a casting number that came up volvo penta... No real ID on it anywhere, except Carver on the snap on cover. Myst be Volvo. My guess is it is standard with teleflex and maybe morse. All I need is the 2 levers. They look terrible. They have like a grippy soft "rubber or foam"... Sun rotted it and it looks terrible. All dried up!

Homelite - give Brian or Jeff at Carver a call. Have your hull # on hand. He can look up your construction log and point you in the best direction. 920-822-7248. 8-) er

I found it is a volvo penta PC-740 shifter. Brian confirmed it is VP they used that year.. No help on parts though. Anyone know the popular chrome single lever dual station shifter/throttle that is very common on carver yachts? I could probably switch over to that if I knew what it was!

Thanks\Scott

A few pictures might help folks understand what you're dealing with and they also might recognize it by sight rather than part #. Once you ID it, you might be able to check at some of the "boat junkyards" around to see if they have the parts you 're looking for.

The Sierra/Teleflex CH4400 series was popular on Carvers. Is this what you're talking about converting to?
