Lewmar v700 Windlass Carver 3207

Post by ataylor233 »

Has anyone used this ..... I have a carver 3207 not sure what size line or chain i have.
(I Guess i should know that) This Model says it supports up to 35 ft boat i'm sure there are other factors at play. I will be Anchoring in a couple lakes and Rivers ... i do know i just purchased a 22 pound anchor, This will get a lot of usage probably twice a week whenever our Gov opens our state. Will this work ? i got it for 600 bux figured id give it a try but knowing i have to cut a hole in my deck. i also know there are better choices but none along this price point that i know of.

Good chance you will be spending more money . I can tell you that you cant just throw any size or type of chain and rode at your windlass. There will be specs for size and type that will work for it. You'll need to find out what you have and check.

that unit will work fine for a 20lb anchor although IMHO that is on the light side. Personally I would put 30 ft of chain with a proper transition to rope thereafter for a total of 200 ft or so however all chain is also another good option. Here are the specs for the V700. https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=3264983#

That being said there are still some boat bux to pull out as wiring from bow to stern with the appropriate size for a windlass will get rather spendy. ;-)

I looked at the specs and my chain and line are within the specs. I've already ordered 4 gauge wire 25 ft of red and black along with the proper connections. I'm thinking I should have gone with 8 gauge wire but figured it should work either way.

Thanks I looked them up when I purchased it I plan on going with 30 ft of chain. Going to place the order soon. I've already ordered 4 gauge marine wire that should work just fine except for the flexibility I'm going to need to install it lol

4 gauge is probably overkill, then again no such thing as too big a wire. 8 gauge on the other hand sounds too small if you ask me.

Hi just commented on the chain because in your original post you said you didn't know what size line or chain you had. Glad what you have will work.

How long is the wire run ( total ) both ways? I believe you have 40 amps draw so check out the chart here....

FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I had a 1986 3207 and it had rode with a chain leader of about 20 - 25 feet + -. It worked great. The boat came with a Danforth Anchor on it, however, I replaced it with a Bruce. It was a good combination for the type of bottoms we have in northern Ontario. Everyone will have their preference with anchors, I currently have a Delta on my current 44 and it works great as well.
