Hour meeting blinking

Post by bobcinga »

My boat is a 2006 carver 41 CMY with twin gas Volvo’s. Both hour meters sometime ago quit displaying fully. So an 8 might look like a 6 or a 9. Checked with shop and they said they could read actual engine hours plugging into the motors diagnostics, so didn’t worry about it. Now, port side is close to readable, but starboard side does not display enough to read. Port side has the blinking h to the left of the hour meter when engine is running, but starboard full display just blinks whatever is left still working. Basically unreadable. is a fully blinking hour meter a warning of some kind? Oil, temp, and volatile all read good on both engines.

I can’t find a manual on the guages and Hour meter display anywhere.

Thanks!

An hour meter is the most basic of instruments and has one purpose in life which is to count and accumulate time when power is applied. That being said it is not capable of anything else. Probably on it's way out but both at the same time is rather odd. Check voltage to the meter at the meter when they are activated, could be a poor connection/bad wire causing improper display. If voltage is good just swap them out for new ones and p-touch the old hours onto the new. ;-)
