Question about water coming out exhaust.

Post by VicB »

I have a 88’ 3807. For lack of a better term, there seems to be an exhaust vault glassed into each side of the boat. There are holes on each side that divert each engines exhaust under water. There is also a large stainless square tip on each side of the boat that exhausts water from engines, AC water pump and generator exhaust. On the starboard side I noticed water coming out of the tip like it was supposed to AND water coming out the bottom, between the boat and tip. Maybe it does that on both sides? I had already shut the port engine down when I noticed this and it was getting dark. Has anyone taken these off? Maybe just a sealant issue?

Interesting Vic, mine has the holes on the side and bottom but not the square tip you're talking about. Can you post a photo?

Are you saying that you didn't notice any water coming out of the exhaust ports/holes on the port side? It can be difficult to see water coming from the bottom holes at an idle, it's not underwater exhaust but they're very close to the water line.

Viper, I was hoping you’d see this post. I remembered you and I have the same boat and you’ve been a tremendous help to me in the past. First, I want to thank you for sharing all your experience. You’ve been on of the best resources for getting to know our Carvers and their systems, not just for me, but a lot of folks on this forum. Second, you are right about the holes in the aft for exhaust. Mine are an inch or two above the waterline, which does make it nice to check for water output before we untie from the dock. My side exhaust tips may have been an add on somewhere along the way. We are taking my daughter and a bunch of her friends out this evening, so I’ll snap some pics. Thanks again!

Here is a picture of the exhaust. I can see that there is at least one screw missing. I'm hoping it is maybe some missing sealant and a couple of screws.

Those sure look like add-on's IMO. And I don't see any sealant at all!

Interesting, never seen those before. I guess the big question is; why? Would be interesting to find out if it was factory or a previous owner but that's the first time I've seen that design on any brand.

Looks like a version of a clam shell that someone has made up to me. Nice job on the finish.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Definitely not original. Must be PO installed to stop muskrats or critters from entering exhaust. Or, he wanted noise level lower diverting DB's to the aft. Solid glass there, so no coring rot. 8-) er

That is what is on my 87 Mariner. A buddy also has an 87 Mariner with the same thing.
Thanks
