Carver 3207 Full Graphic Wrap (Almost) Completed!

Post by Adaptel »

Thought I would share the results of my epicly large project....did a full wrap on my 1988 Carver 3207 Aft Cabin. Am very pleased with how it turned out and am even more excited not having to deal with oxidation every year. Only have to do the front of the bridge now. What do you think?

Definitely different. Not sure what to think, looks great and then I sit back and wonder. :captain:

Question, Lake Winnipesaukee, know it quite well as my brother lives in Bedford, NH. I was told you are not allowed to overnight on the lake? This true?
Cheers, Hans

Welcome aboard.

Looks great but I gotta tell ya, I know someone that had that done to a 44 Sea Ray a few years ago and he had it removed after about two seasons. It started peeling in some spots, especially at the waterline where it met the bottom paint, and was getting badly chafed in some areas from the bumpers, and minor rubs from their dinghy and PWC. You can't buff those off on vinyl as it tears. He wrapped it because his gel wasn't in the best of shape so the recommendation was an expensive wet sand. Instead, he got quotes to paint and wrap. He chose wrapping, didn't last, ended up paying for a wet sand anyway, and boat looked like a million bucks afterwards. Hope this will not be the case with you, maybe the product has changed over the last few years.

I love the graphic, huge job for sure, hopefully it will last.

Yes you are correct. You cannot sleep overnight on anchor at Lake Winni. You can stay out all night on the lake if you want, but you cannot go to sleep out on the lake under anchor. I think the powers that be figured that all of new england would come and party/sleep all over the lake, which would upset all the rich snobs in their multi-million dollar mansions. Not positive, but this is what I heard. I sleep overnight often in my slip at the marina where I am based, and that is perfectly ok.

Yes, this will last assuming I don't start navigating by feel and smacking into all sorts of things. Even if I do damage it, I just can print a repair patch and fix her up like new. It is hard to tell where the seams are even when standing 2' away.

Below the rub rail I used a very specialized vinyl that is specifically for marine use at the waterline. It was crazy hard to install because it has no air egress technology (a lot of work to install bubble free), and the adhesive on it was insane. The moment it barely contacted the hull, it was really hard to pull away to reposition...so getting it right the first time was critical. It should last 8-12 years and even though it took 60+ hours to install.....it would take me less than 2 to remove if/when I choose to. If you heat this vinyl with a propane heat gun, the adhesive releases and it comes of effortlessly with little residue. The technology has DEFINITELY come a long way in the past 5 years.

I have used this wrap on speed boats at the waterline without any issue. FYI....Preparation is everything and I did end up wet sanding and removing all traces of oxidation before installing wrap. Its the only way to ensure it won't fail in the future.

It definitely makes your boat a unique one. I think it's kind of neat overall.

Well, I guess there has to be one sour ball in the candy dish. Boy, I am having trouble rapping my eyes around the visual concept of this boat. It just does not look right. My brain says cruiser but the visual is yelling go fast.

Certainly a great place to boat! It is an interesting look, if you like it and it reduces your time cleaning which equals more time on the water!
