1997 445 Aft Cabin

Postby Peter3607 » August 23rd, 2020, 10:38 pm

Looking at a '97 445 aft cabin but I don't see many posts on here on this model. Carver Yachts site lists the 440 and the 455 as closest models. Am I missing something? Any known issues with the 445? Thanks

They may have made a mistake in the ad....the brochures show no such model for 97......compare the main house side window profiles in the brochure pics to what you are looking at.

There is however a 445 listed for 98 and 99 in the specs.
The above is strictly my opinion.

There does seem to be some confusion about when the 445 was first produced. I know because I just bought a 1997 Carver 445 (probably the one mentioned earlier) up in Ontario on Lake Simcoe. It has the integrated and larger swim platform that showed up on the 445, has the integrated curved aft stairs that is different from the 440, the extra cabinets in the aft port section of the aft stateroom that weren't there on the 440, and it certainly has the "Four forty-five" stencil on the side. The owner's manual says it is a 1997 445. But, when I called the factory to ask about part and gave them the hull number, they insist it is a 440 since it was built in 1997. When I sent them some pictures they said maybe it was a mid-year model change issue or something like that. Strange to say the least.

Besides that confusion, I'm pleased with the boat in the very short time I have owned it and the even less time I've had to run it and inspect it. Buying a boat during a pandemic, across a closed border, using delivery captains and dealing with customs/import agents who all had different rules and paperwork requirements that changed on a daily or hourly basis is no fun, but that is a story for another time.

So far the boat has been great, ran strong, can handle rough weather, and is very comfortable inside. We brought her down to Ohio and put her away for the winter. Looking forward to doing a bit of maintenance, repair, and improvement in the spring before heading out on the Great Loop. Unfortunately we live many states away and cannot get back there often during the winter.
