Transducer

Post by pepmyster »

I'm in the middle of choosing my transducer for our vessel. We have a Garmin 1242xsv touch. My main question is all about installing a transom mount transducer. This transducer will do clear view, side view, depth and temp. Anyone here ever install a transom mount transducer on this style boat? Thanks.2004 360 Sports Sedan.

A transom mount transducer won't work very well on a boat with inboard engines. The transducer needs to be in front of the props or you will only see clutter on the display due to prop wash, air bubbles etc. Unless you are at or near idle speed.

Not a good idea for your application. You've spent good money for the display, don't diminish the system's capabilities by skimping on the wrong ducer for your application. Transom mounts are fine for outboards and sterndrives but not the best choice for inboard vessels.

After talking with Garmin, I'm going to go with traditional sonar. In hull transducer with the angle rings to get the best position.

I guess I really wanted to get clearvu but the only way to get it is thru-hull.

What's one more hole in the bottom of the boat?

Personally I'd be drilling a hole. It's not that big a deal to do.
