Fuel Tank for a 1987 4207

Does any one have the exact dimensions or maybe a link where Carver Yacht drawings specs could be found for a 1987 Carver 4207 gas fuel saddle tank.
I have what was provided to me from the former owner but the numbers do not allow for the proper 200 gal capacity and the boat is 3 hours away from me.
I am trying to get them to has a new tank fabricated to replace a leaky tank.

Sounds like a big risk to me to have something fabricated from dimensions on paper. I would definitely take the current tank out, check if there is space for more, bigger, better and then get it made. In all the documentation I pulled from the Carver site I have not seen any definite (enough) dimensions in such detail as to have things made off those alone.

From what I see in my 26, there is room for a bigger tank and the original had no way to access the inside for inspection, cleaning and so on. Perhaps a good moment to upgrade to a better tank too.

I dealt with a company years ago that actually had the blueprints for several Carver tanks as they had bought out the original manufacturer but I don't recall which company it was. I have to agree with Phrancus though, I'd remove the tank first and sketch a diagram with all the specs so the fabricator can duplicate it. Make sure they install at least a couple of baffles inside and at least the same amount of ports on top and of the same size. Also ensure they cut a standard five bolt pattern opening for a fuel sender and weld on a grounding tab beside it and another by the fill port. It's also a good idea to think about special coatings on the exterior to help prolong its longevity. Many companies offer that option now. Just curious... do you have to cut the hull or pull the engines to replace the tank?

Thank you for your responses. I totally agree. I have found a tank that I think is the original tank from a dealer. The new tank is almost the same dimensions as what we have measured. But our measurement are about 2 inches (or less) off on the height dimension. I feel our discrepancy is from the top fill and vent ports. I cannot get back to the boat to measure this to be sure. The boat yard is going to cut out the side hull to remove and they want the tank present before they take the boat. In a perfect and normal world I would also prefer to get measurement before we order. This is the only tank that I have found that is not me have it custom build and it noted to be one of the tanks used by Caver. The gallons and size are almost exactly the same so I don't want to miss out on purchasing the original if that is what I have located.
Thanks again for all the great advice. This group is very active and it is nice to have this network. My previous boat owner group was not near as active as you guys are.

FYI, just a caveat.....if this is an original or a tank they have had sitting around, inspect the inside and bottom carefully before accepting, you don't want to buy a tank with some corrosion started during poor storage practices...perhaps a pressure test would be in order......good luck with your project....

There's definitely nothing wrong with a custom tank except having to wait. I wouldn't settle if your found tank doesn't measure out. But it might be worth getting a estimate on one just to know where you stand with the money to the one you found.

David... I have the same problem but have no solution for removing the old tank other than by cutting through the floor, moving the engine and cutting the tank out, or cutting a hole in the side of the boat. What are you going to do? Bob / ZigZag.... kreed60950@gmail.com
