Post New owner

Hello all,

I am about to become a new/first time owner of a Carver 380 SANTEGO.

Experience:

I have owned a small sea ray, and have done my fair share of time on a sail boat. I am also former navy.

I own a RV rental and RV repair company. I bought the Carver to rent.

I know less than zero about owning a boat like this, and am pretty sure it will be different than my old bowrider...

I am good with electrical and fiberglass work...

While I know engines, I am not knowledgeable on these marine engines.

Post Kohler 3kw generator not putting out power

So I started my generator like I normally do just to keep things working and it starts fine but, never kicks in to "high gear" and start putting out power. Just stays in the "idel" mode. Starts and stops with no problem. Never had the issue before. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Post Adding solar - Replace battery charger or just add inverter

Looking for advice.

I have a 456 year 2000. This boat does not have an inverter just battery charger. I want to add solar to avoid running geny (or at least limit the time it is running) while anchored. The purpose of solar addition is to operate my fridge (which is ac only) and maybe another outlet for computers etc.

I am trying to decide if I should replace battery charger with a new unit that is a battery charger/inverter, thus tying solar into the boats entire electrical system, or just keep ...

Post Draining some gas?

My 390 is on teh hard, and since it has been warm and the high angle the bow is in, some gas was leaking out of the vent on starboard side. I loosened the fill cap and all stopped leaking, however, yard asked me to drain 10 or so gallons out. Sounds easy! HOWEVER, when i tried to put a 5/8” ninny l hose down the fill pipe it went in about 3’ or so and stopped. I moved it around, twisted it, etc, but it made a sound like it had bottomed out in teh tank, however, the end was not wet. So i figured ...

Post Greetings, All

Hello, All from the St Louis, MO area US (Hailing Port “West Alton, MO) Proud new owner of my new to me 1986 3607 Aft. Been looking at this model on the online sites for over 10 years. These boats were always far away, bad repair, etc. This one being local, in reasonably good condition, all systems functional, well it became time to make it happen. Post Dinette cushions

Upcoming project will be replacing the cushions in the dinette on our 3607. Has anyone used denim as a fabric? Pros/cons? Also, thinking of not replacing the "u" shaped cushion but just covering some body pillows or larger throw pillows. No one sits there as the bulkhead is to low. Thoughts, pros/cons?

Post What are these ports on the transom?

We hauled out for the first time this week. Woohoo!

Was wondering what these circular ports were on the transom. There are two next to the throughhull for the depth finder wiring and two in between the two drives.

Post ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT - CARVER 455

ALTERNATOR NEEDS REPLACEMENT: I need to replace one of my Cummins 6CTA 8.3L alternators in my Carver 455, and I have a couple of questions for anybody in the know. 1) Has anyone done this and reused the pulley? Buying one with the pulley adds almost $200. 2) Not sure of the amperage output, but I've been told it should be 130 amp? Anyone know for sure? 3) Anything else I should know about this job? Thanks!
