Post sheen on the water

I have Cummins 6BTA's on a 390. One engine is smoking more than the other and there appears to be fuel coming out of the exhaust port leaving a light sheen on the water. I was told it is likely unburned fuel due to one or more injectors with poor spray pattern resulting in incomplete burn. Does this sound right, or is there some other problem at play? There is more smoke coming from this engine. Cant tell if the smoke is more blue than black though.

Any comments or advice appreciated.

Post propeller sizing

I've got a Carver 390 with twin Cummins 315 HP engines and 4 blade 23x28 props. I recently sent in the props for balancing and the prop shop said the specs given for HP, WOT(2800), gear ratio (1.96:1) and expected speed (21 kn) didn't add up. On sea trials we achieved 2750 rpms and a speed of 40 KPH (21+ knt). Prop shop claimed that those props should not be pitched higher than 23, so they didn't do anything to them awaiting clarification on the numbers I provided on the spec sheet. It seems ...

Post gas engine choices for a repower

Ok engine gurus, opinions on who is the best to repower with, a 20,000 lb boat thru RV drives.....mercruiser, crusader or volvo penta........I know that diesels are better but the cost is just unrecoverable in the short term imo.

Would you get the complete package, fuel injected etc or just the engines or the long blocks and swap out all the stuff you already have which would be carbed. Mercs are already there....Thanks as I have never done this before...

Post Carver 356 aftcabin swim platform davit question

Hi all, I am looking for a davit that's cheap and does not hinder the back when not in use. Preferably a pull up one, that slides into place when one wishes to use. I found some but they are ridiculously priced for 2 little metal posts. But my question is more so the 2 sets of 3x screws on swim platform. They do not look like they are holding anything, and I looked at similar models and they did not have it. Are these possibly placed there for installing Davits? anyone know? I will post pi ...

Post 1984 Aft Cabin 3607 Windlass Locker

I recently purchased a 1984 Aft Cabin 3607. Unfortunately, the previous owner had passed away before I bought it.

I have been making general repairs and decided to have the " Good Automatic Windlass" rebuilt by Tom at Good. I also purchased new 5/8" rope from Good.

The old rope looks to be stored behind two cabinet doors in the bow of the V-birth. I do not notice any drain holes, only vents from above to allow air in. Is this the correct placement?

As I inspect the boat, I also notice a compartmen ...

Post 1998 350 Mariner plotter change

My Apelco 530 display is toast and I'm having trouble locating a replacement display which is forcing me to change out my depth gauge/ plotter system I only use the depth finder feature and really don't have a need for the plotter, but my problem is finding a system that either uses the same mounting scenario for the transducer (which is a bottom hull mount) or where things can be easily modified. I will be able to have the boat pulled from the water and I will have around a 4 hour window to ...

Post Crusader clicking sound

My starboard engine has a clicking sound when you increase rpm from idle. Idle to 1200 rpm. Repeat it several times.
Can this sound be the fuel injection?
