110 volt circuit breakers
On my electrical distribution panel on 1995 440 the 110 volt side does not work when generator is running. Both sides are OK when shore power is connected and the side running the air conditioners is ok when genny is running too. Any ideas where to start? Some have suggested the breaker is bad. Anything else I can Check>\?

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
Does your boat automatically switch between shore and generator?
If so, there are two relays that do the automatic switching. One of them is probably faulty.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
I don't have auto switching. There is a slider that moves back and forth only allowing either shore power breaker or generator breaker to be in the on position.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
If that is the case, it is most likely the breaker. Do you know how to safely use a voltage tester? If so with the gen running check voltage on the in and out of the gen breaker (the one that is one when in the generator position) in question. Most likely it has failed

Thanks for your input. Will check next week when I get back to the boat. The wife thinks I need to go to her family reunion this weekend. Will let you know what happens next week.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
ON your generator you should have a switch so you can start it and next to it you should have another switch make sure the switch is on and the fuse is good. That switch powers everything to your panel when on.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
Samuel thanks for the input. I do have a switch on the generator and it is powered on. The switch must be OK as the Air Conditioner side on the AC panel is live. Do you know if there are any other fuses between the generator and the Circuit breakers on the electrical distribution panel?

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
Normally there are no other switches or fuses between the gen and the breakers in your ac distribution panel.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
If you do not have a gen/line breaker, then there is a set of relays that switch between generator and line.
The one for the ac is working. The other isn't.
I have no idea where they are on your boat.
On mine, it's on a black box under the seat right next to the incoming line.

Re: 110 volt circuit breakers
Marina fixed the problem. The generator has one switch for the breaker that powers the 2 sides of the electrical panel. The breaker has 2 sides to it and one side was faulty. They got a new breaker from kohler and everything is good. I have never seen a breaker that actually has 2 outputs. Go figure it is a boat. Thanks to all who offered help.
