Carver C34

Post by dirtdoc1 »

I'm starting this C34 thread in hopes of meeting other C34 or C40 owners. I ordered a C34 and am patiently waiting for it to arrive. I bought the boat sight unseen and am a little nervous about it. I love the floor plan and the engine room is awesome! The bow is really tall giving it a seaworthy appearance. I hope that it's more than just appearance. The lack of a radar arch is frustrating and has caused me a lot of time trying to find the right after market arch for it. It doesn't have fresh water cooling either. From what I understand the raw water will run through a heat exchanger not through the engine. If I understand it correctly the only parts that will come into contact with the raw water are the risers, manifold and heat exchanger. I can always put on an after market fresh water cooling system. I guess this is what I have to deal with for buying an entry level boat. I love it - a $400k entry level boat! It's so tempting to save some money and buy a used bigger boat that's fully loaded. But I didn't want to start out by having to sink money into it. Been there done that. I bought the 6 year extended warranty that covers everything so I'm not going to have to worry about anything other than zincs and bottom paint for the next 8 years. I hope I like it as much as I think I'm going to.

Anyways, I hope to hear from some other C line owners.

Cheers!

Be glad the engine is a closed system. Salt water and gas engines aren't good for each other.

I really do not like the idea of no radar arch - where are you supposed to mount a radar array, and support tall antennas? Sure you can mount a closed dome in front of you and blank the microwave transmission at yourself, but I like to see what's coming up from the rear, especially in a foggy area.

What were they thinking????????
Thanks

Some where (can't remember where) I saw a pic of a C-xx with a mast mounted behind the fly bridge with a radar dome on top.

Ya I've seen that picture. I think it's the C40. It looks good but takes up real estate. Are you or anyone you know going to get one of the new C yachts?

How did you know that it has a closed cooling system? I had to ask the salesman and he had to check with Carver.

There will be a heat exchanger mounted somewhere above/on the engine. There will be a radiator cap and a reservoir with antifreeze in it.
The raw water will remove the heat from the antifreeze just like air does in a car. The salt water never gets into the engine cooling system at all.
Thanks

Thanks Waybomb, I'll look for that. I still haven't taken possession of the boat yet. It's currently over in Oakland getting the radar arch and electronics installed. It is far easier to buy a house!

Cheers!
