If you have one that's trapping air inside, it might, but I'd also think you'd have all kinds of other issues (lack of hot water, chance of overheating the element, air bursts in the hot water flow, etc, etc).
I'd like to see why they think that an accumulator is a bad idea with those pumps. Seems like it would make it much easier on the pump!

Went through 2 in 2 years until I switched it over to wash down duty but then again it really sees very little time there. Regardless, look up the variable speed units (any brand) and you will see how bad the ratings are. Not recommended.
