Bedding a front windshield

2002 57' Carver front tinted middle windshield is loose. I need to rebed but am not sure how to go about it. I figure I will take the shield off, cut out the old sealant and then rebed. What type of sealant is recommended. Does anyone have suggestions on the right way to do this?

My first thought would be 3M 5200 as it is permanent, but then I'm thinking maybe 4200 as it is semi permanent - just in case you have to ever replace the glass.

I would suggest a double sided foam glazing tape. They used to use a butyl tape on them but it oozes out of the edges and is a sticky black mess. After you re-bed the glass in glazing tape, you could go around the perimeter with a silicone bead. To keep the silicone bead looking nice start with a very clean surface and mask both sides of the sealant joint,

Tithe double glaze foam tape is factory OEM. I am in the process of doing my port pilot house glass. The OEM tape is junk and will shrink in heat, depending on your climate. Overtime you will be in the same situation you are in now. The 3M adhesives are like automotive windshield glues and will secure and seal better for a longer period of time (or permanent). Plus way more user friendly with a caulking gun than strips of tape. JMHO.

I am a fan of BoatLife caulk and careful masking for this type of job. Always comes out water tight and looking good.
