I am the new (old) guy

Post by Youghster »

We took delivery of a 95 Santego 310 a couple weeks ago and we are getting to know her. So far the problems have had solutions but that can't last. I expect I will be asking for help soon and often and I will certainly share what I can. I do have a little experience with Chris Craft, a 57' mahogany runabout and a 28' Catalina from 1980. I hate to see her go, but I think we are going to be really happy on this Carver.

Welcome to the forum and Carver.......I'm thinking if you kept up a woody and the Cat then your Carver should be a snap...... :-D
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Congrats and welcome aboard. My first boat was a '61 Chris Connie. She was a great boat and I'm told she's still going strong.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. And now here comes one of those problems..... We finally took up the snap together "hardwood floor" that a previous owner installed. There was no access to the floor hatches and I just had to have a look at the shower box and waste tank and fresh water tank; especially since the tank level indicator does not work on the holding tank. I found that the fresh water tank has swelled up and pushed up the access hatch (plywood) so that it no longer lays down securely. The tank is flexible and does not leak, but how in the dickens does one get the bulge out of the top of it ?

I assume its a plastic tank. If so here is an idea, no idea if it will work, but its something I would try if it was my problem.
Drain the tank. Plug the vent, make sure the fill is closed tight, pull the supply off the pump and introduce a vacuum to the tank. If you have any access to an a/c - refrigeration vacuum pump that would be ideal. I would try heating the top of the tank with a heat gun while under vacuum.

Thanks - that is a fine idea. I will try to get that project underway before we winterize. Our season ends mid September. Mountain lake boating :-(
