No, in fact quite the opposite. The oil will foam up and get aerated by the crank if there's too much in the sump, the pump can't move oil in that condition. This can reduce pressure, cause complete pressure loss, overheating, foul plugs, blow seals, cause excessive exhaust smoke, etc. Because of it's influence on engine performance, checking for an overfilled sump is on the list of a good tech's first things to check when diagnosing runnability issues.
Not so much excessive oil pressure, but you will get splashing from the crankshaft which will foam the oil and cause LOW oil pressure.
On the comment "I didnt allow enough time for the oil to drain back to the pan"... This should really never be an issue. Think about it... when the engine is running full tilt, the oil needs to be constantly "draining back to the pan" or you would run out of oil. If you check it immediately after stopping, it might be lower than if you wait, but it should not be below the "fill" line (not the "full" line!)
