I must assume the isolators are hooked up to everything except the Genny. The genny has its own dedicated shore power charger and also chargers while the generator is running via its own alternator. The start/thruster batteries are connected together physically and cannot be separated in less you disconnect the cables so basically 2x, 31 series wet cells in parallel to form a bank. there are 2 banks like this, plus the house bank.
Checked the manual and everything I have from Carver but nada when it comes to schematics on how this is set up. No macerator on board and the vacuflush heads both work like a charm and never cycle on between flushes.
Regardless of the route I take, the old style diode isolator will be removed. These are the ones Carver installed. https://www.electrobat.com/en/articulo/ ... 60-amp.htm
I can see why they need 2 because their maximum input is 160a whereas we are dealing with a 135a alternator on each engine, these are the stock Volvo alternators by the way.

You know, considering , you may have found your switching source, interesting question would be to see how they would handle such a large draw coming from two separate sources with each one being regulated. When you changed to one source charger all calmed down.Midnightsun wrote:QR_BBPOST Regardless of the route I take, the old style diode isolator will be removed. FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Re: Odd Charging While Under Way
The alternators were always charging through the isolators, all I did was start the genny to add shore power charging. This somehow allowed thing to charge properly. After the shore power charging "kickstart", things got back to normal. Almost as if the alternators were flipping on and off which I seriously doubt. The isolators are really only diodes or electrical check valves if you prefer. Not sure if over demand on a diode does anything weird or if it just burns them out. Mystery for sure. You know, considering , you may have found your switching source, interesting question would be to see how they would handle such a large draw coming from two separate sources with each one being regulated. FYI, I have no way of combining batteries through a 1/2/all switch so nothing funky/forgotten that could be the cause. This is factory from Carver. All batteries do have an on/off switch though.

Re: Odd Charging While Under Way
Hans, I have been away for three weeks and I just saw your thread.
This was happening to my boat after I had pushed my house battery down to those low levels. I couldn't figure out why my alternators were not charging the house battery but charging everything else. I was finally able to figure out the problem. I am not sure if you have resolved your issue.
In my boat, under my step where the battery switch is for the house battery there are two high amp breakers. I noticed one of them had tripped. Turns out it is a breaker between my alternators and the house battery. I turned the breaker on and they started to charge again, but then the breaker tripped a short time later.
This is what was happening. When my battery was discharged to a low point after being anchored, and I was running my engines, it would appear that the battery was drawing to much from the alternators and was tripping the breaker.
Now that I have my solar and I am anchored out, like I just was for 8 days, the batteries are not getting discharged enough and I am not having this problem anymore. This could be your issue.
I know that this this sounds like a quick solution, but see if you have a breaker between your alternators and your house batteries. Worked for me.
Hope this helps you.
Greg

Re: Odd Charging While Under Way
Already checked those high amp breakers but double checked once again. Unfortunately all 5 were good. Unless there is one hidden that I do not my about. Thanks for the suggestion though. All seems to be fine.
