1977 Carver 2896

Postby Jimj » January 2nd, 2022, 2:55 pm

Hello from Vancouver Washington. I’m strongly considering buying a 1977 2896. It’s been moored covered and seems solid. Im concerned about potential balsa core issues. It has original twin mercury 351 Windsor’s with Velvet V Drives with 700 hours. Meticulous maintenance records. The engines seem to run very well with one drive needing inspection. Any thoughts on this boat and the propulsion system? Looking for a local hull surveyor. Jim

Good luck going forward on this.
You mentioned getting a hull surveyor. Don’t stop there. You need a full pre-purchase survey that will check the hull, deck, engines and all systems and most likely will take the boat on a sea trial.
Pretty sure your insurance company will insist on it.

I will get a full survey. Hoping someone from the Portland Oregon area can recommend a good surveyor. I’m interested in hearing from folks who have owned this boat.
