I think the problem is if you google the National Vessel Documentation Center, it may not necessarily be the first site to come up. Below is the proper link to document your vessel:

Just a heads’ up….
For the past couple of years, the CG allowed for renewal for 1-5 years. Effective Jan 1, they were supposed to go to a 5 year only renewal for recreational boats. A last minute change came about on 12/27, and they will continue to renew for 1 up to 5 years.
The fee schedule on their website says 5 years only, but it is a mistake and will be corrected soon. Got this directly from the CG doc office.

The fee schedule on the NVDC website has been corrected. 1-5 year renewals are available for recreational boats.
