Hello crew. Recently I noticed that my Maxwell windless was neither dropping or lifting the anchor. No response from the control. So I was thinking that it might be a bad connection and I sprayed an electronic corrosion product into the switch and it started to work....or so I thought.
Yesterday as I was dropping the anchor (my 2005 Mariner has 150 ft of chain), it quit working. I flicked the switch on/off thinking it was the connection but then realized that it was getting power because I heard a 'whirring' sound at the motor but no chain action. I attached the manual crank and found out that it the chain is frozen in place. The chain cannot be moved in either direction.
All thoughts and advice are welcomed. I am hoping that I will not have to replace this expensive item.

Re: Windless Issue
First, I am no Maxwell guru like some here....but perhaps excessive chain twist has jammed up the mechanism and broken something, can you remove the chain ?
You say the motor is turning ? .....Go below and watch ( check shaft for motion ) to verify. Did you clean the contacts or just spray stuff in them?
There are online manuals for these things that may walk you thru troubleshooting your specific problem.....good luck man.

FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.
