If so, does this protect the genset if I forget to disconnect shore power? 85 Carver 3697, 7 yr old Kohler 7.5 ekd genset. Thanks

Been a while since I looked at mine, but pretty sure it is an auto transfer switch and if working properly, you can turn on your genset while still hooked to shore power. When you start up the genset, you will hear the switch “chatter” while making the switch over.
Put it this way, if you don’t have a manual switch on your panel, you have to have an auto switch.

Thanks very much for the replies! I thought it had one but just discovered this under a hatch under the dinette seat. No labels anywhere on it.

Actually there is one label but only a number. Anyone have an idea on make, model, etc.? Always like to have a manual on stuff. Internet search unsuccessful so far.

Re: New boat to me, is this an automatic generator transfer switch?
Yes, that is the auto transfer switch and something you should remember if you ever have a problem getting shore power to the main panel. Sometimes those relay contacts get burned and you'll get power from the generator (when it's running) but not from shore power when you're plugged in. There are a few other threads on here that list sources for those relays that can be replaced. In a pinch you can clean the contacts to get shore power working again (but observing all the precautions about working on line-powered equipment!).
