Question: accessing/checking internal exhaust cavity without removing elbow
On our factory OEM Volvo Penta 8.1L TBI exhaust elbow (no CAT) there is a pipe plug on the top, almost centered over the exhaust riser. Does removing this plug allow "swabbing" the exhaust cavity for moisture?
I don't want to "un-do" a pipe plug that accesses the raw water jacket area.
We had the port engine exhaust riser gaskets replaced last year, and would like to check the std engine.

Re: Volvo Penta 8.1L exhaust riser elbow pipe plug
Searching on-line, I found video of removed VP exhaust elbow, which confirmed that 3/8 pipe plug on top does go to the exhaust cavity for swabbing the inside of passage for moisture/rust.
I'm going to try removing the one on my cracked elbow, as I have nothing to loose taking it out. That will let me know the issues accessing the others.
