I noticed in your photo that you have a ground cable issue. The yellow DC negative cable should be located on the stud just above and to the left of where it is now. Yours is on the equipment ground stud which in boat speak would be where the green bonding wire should go. It is a very common installation error even from boat manufacturers. Besides the opportunity for corrosion while sitting in the drip pan, it also is now using the braided strap that was not meant to normally carry current to conduct starter cranking current. The clue is the label in plain English that says negative cable here.

Wow, that's quite a catch. I had a hard time finding it on the pic and you told me what to look for. I'll check it out next time im on the boat. Pretty positive that was a factory install, I know I haven't messed with that, and what I know of the previous owners, I doubt they did either.
