Post Pink Stuff Facts

Time to shop for the pink stuff for some and getting closer for others.

Pink stuff is not all the same. Most of if not all the cheap stuff you find at your big surface hardware stores contains alcohol. This is fine for your potable water system however not the best for engines as it will dry out rubber such as hoses, o-rings and impellers. You want to use polypropylene glycol which is motor friendly and remains 100% non toxic even in your water system. I am cheap so I use the good stuff in the e ...

Post Just signed up, searching for my next boat

Hello fellow boaters!
My name is Ken. I am retired Coast Guard Aviator and retired licensed yacht captain. I worked for several large yacht brokerages as a teaching/delivery captain. One of those was a new Carver dealer. I have had a lot of experience running Carvers from 32ft up to 53ft, teaching new owners how to operate their boats, everything from flushing the head to docking, navigation, routine maintenance ect.

I am now in the market for my very own Carver. Having been cruising sailors for ...

Post Good summer of boating

I bought my 92 330 aft cabin this year. When I purchased the boat we knew it needed love, over the summer we were able to give her the needed love she deserved. It was a bonus having to repair things, I know the boat like the back of my hand now.
I want to thank all the members that answered questions I had posted. I hope I can help other members out with there questions. I have posted some pictures of our progress. Hope you enjoy.

Post New props for my 530

I'm curious what you all are using for your prop set up. I currently have 31x34 nibral on my 530 with TAMD74P's with ZF 2.55:1 transmissions. I think these are really big wheels and am considering dropping down to 28x31.5 nibral. I recently dinged a prop and after repair, haven't made past 2450 on rpm. I think the prop shop put a couple inches of cup back into the props that had been previously tuned out, but even so I think these are just too big for my set up. See any problem with propping dow ...

Post Gas Cap Maintenance

Just a reminder as many never think about this. Your gas cap has an o-ring on it that seals the tank and keeps rain/wash water out of your tank. I highly suggest you remove it/them and replace with a new if you have never done so or if it looks to be in great shape then just apply silicone grease or o-ring lube to it. This will keep it looking and working great not to mention the gas cap comes on and goes off much better. A telltale sign it needs lube is slight squeaking when installing or remov ...

Post Charging House Battery from Alternators

I was on the hook this weekend and needless to say I was on my house battery with periodic generator use. The house battery was charging fine while using the generator in the morning and in the evening to boost things up.

The problem I am having is charging my house battery when I am underway. My alternators charge all my batteries when I am underway. I have a hi-amp breaker under my step that is connected to the alternators line to the house battery. When the house battery is low, like after ...

Post 83 aft cabin toilet

We recently purchased a 83 3207 aft cabin. We love it so far but have a couple issues I’m hoping someone can help with. The main cabin toilet will not flush. It will fill up with water to the rim of the seat but not flush. I thought maybe the tanks were full so ask our marina to pump them. They informed me they could get one to empty but couldn’t get to the other one. Which leads to Second issue

How do you get main cabin toilet to flush?? Or what reason would prevent it from flushing?

Secondly i ...
