Post Cleaning your Motors

I'm curious what process or strategy you guys use to clean your motors. I need to do a deep clean on my Volvo TAMD74-P EDC's before touching up the paint. My plan is:

Cover EDC with plastic shower cap

Spray motor liberally with degreaser

Use a soft brush and warm water containing Dawn

Rinse with mist from garden hose sprayer

Shop vac any standing water immediately

Allow to air dry

Any one see a problem with this or have a better idea?

Thanks!

Post 405/406 Port Light Screen Replacement

Hi, the bug screens on my 1998 405 are getting a bit torn up. The boat is new to me and I thought there would be a simple way of pulling iut the old bug screen and putting a new one back in place. However, it appear the bug screen material is embedded into the foam material seal for the portlight lens. Has anyone replaced just the screen?
Thanks in advance
Frank

I'm a New User and New Owner (see intro in New Members Forum). Trying to determine the Clearance for my 1988 Carver 3807. I'm thinking it's about 20 feet, but cannot find anything in any specs.

Post Fresh Water Tanks 1992 Carver CMY 43

Just purchased the vessel.

Filled fresh water tank (S) took a good 1/2 hr to fill.

Pump and systems worked short term, until following morning.

Following morning no water being pumped through system although pump was running, taps etc spitting under pressure.

Boat had been laid up and winterized , this was the first time using on board system.

Are there drain valves for emptying water tanks for winterizing that may need to closed.

I did see water in the forward bilge so I am assuming fresh water tank ...

Post Kudos to this forum and all who participate!

I would just like to let everyone know that I appreciate all members of this forum.

So many other forums can be helpful, but many members get into unbelievable arguments with useless threads that go on and on for months. What a waste of everyone's time!

I am a member of a couple of these other forums, but rarely ever offer an opinion or idea as I am not looking to be beat up for several weeks or longer if someone doesn't agree.

This doesn't happen here. We offer opinions and ideas for our member ...

Post Funky Underside of Radar Arch

Hey Guys. I could use your advise on this issue with cracking around the lighting fixtures on the underside of the radar arch.
There are four exterior lights on the arch which are utilized to light the cockpit. The surface is cracking around one of them and the others are developing blisters almost as if there is rust under the coat which in turn is contaminating the surface. I don't know if the arch is painted over metal or a fiberglassed surface.
Has anyone ever seen this? Would you have a ...

Post 54 Voyager or 560 Min Height

Hello, all!

We're thinking about possibly getting a 54 Voyager or a 560 out east rather than shipping our Meridian 408 out, since we're going to be starting the great loop next March-ish! As there are some important low bridges along the route, I'm wondering if anyone has a decent measurement of the highest fixed point on the hardtop to waterline. To be clear, I'm perfectly willing to spend a long day unbolting EVERYTHING from the hardtop for the one super low bridge near Chicago, so that's the ...

Post Carver 356 Aft Cabin - Refrigerator Swap

Hello,

My 1999 Norcold refrigerator finally quit and needs replacement. I am interested in replacing it with a Vitrifrigo DP2600 8.1 cu ft refrigerator. Dimensionally it looks like it will fit, though I am thinking there will be interference (depth) with the fiberglass hull liner (see picture). I may need to cut out a small portion of it to fit the Vitrifrigo.

Has anyone installed a Vitrifrigo DP2600 in a 356 Aft ? Any major fit/finish issues arise ? And how did you resolve them ? Any help ...
